Sentencing is underway for the former McLean County Unit 5 teacher who admitted to molesting several of his students in Normal and later in Champaign County.
Today is the first of an expected two-day sentencing hearing for Jon White in Champaign-Urbana.
The prosecution is seeking the maximum 56 years.
A Unit 5 Assistant Superintendent took the stand this morning. He said that in October 2004 he was notified that White's school computer had accessed adult porn sites during the school day.
The first grade teacher was placed on paid leave and advised to find help and reportedly did attend counseling.
Then in April, 2005, a parent complained about pictures White showed her 5th grade daughter and about his conduct around the girl.
White was advised not to return to the class for the rest of that school year. He resigned and later took a teaching job in Champaign.
White will be sentenced Friday morning after pleading guilty in February to eight counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for abusing students at an Urbana school in 2005 and 2006.
White also has pleaded guilty to abusing two students in Normal, near Bloomington, in 2004 and 2005. He'll be sentenced there later
this month.
