Anti-Ouch Pouch

By News 25 Staff

Volunteers from the American Sewing Guild took steps Saturday to help comfort breast cancer patients. Breast cancer survivor, Deon Maas designed an anti-ouch pouch for women to use after breast surgery or during radiation treatment.

On Saturday, volunteers made 500 cushions for the sewing guild's upcoming national convention in Chicago. Maas says it is important for her to help ease others who might be experiencing the same pain and discomfort she felt after surgery.

"I was given some free things when I was at the hospital. It meant so much to me that other mastectomy patients cared enough to donate things to use. So, it means a great deal to me to make sure they have a pillow donated to them to make their lives a little better during a stressful time," Maas says.

Although the focus was on breast cancer patients when Maas designed the anti-ouch pouch, it is now being used by people recovering from chest surgery and broken limbs.

sound like this would be so comfortable! I just had breast cancer surgery on March the 14TH. I received a heart shaped pillow which is really comforting.
