State legislators say they need to hear more about the governor's proposals which some say lack specifics.
They say despite the differences that delayed a budget last year, they are hopeful about getting more work accomplished this time around.
Governor Rod Blagojevich's economic stimulus proposal outlined during his state of the state speech did not do much to stimulate support among some republican legislators.
Republican Representative Bill Mitchell from the 87th District said, "I think that this budget is a job killer, it has a 3% assessment for businesses that creates jobs, it's expanding programs and at a time when we have nearly two billion dollars in unpaid bills.
Republican Senator Dale Risinger of the 37th District added, "The thing that he did not say which really disappoints me is how we are gonna dig ourselves out of debt."
Under the governor's proposed 2009 budget he wants to provide $300 tax credits to families for each child , a 20% tax cut for businesses that pay taxes...and sell the state lottery to help pay for a capital budget.
Democratic 46th District State Senator David Koehler said, "We have to pass a capital bill this year....it's now been 9 years."
Republican Representive from the 92nd District, Aaron Schock, said, "Of all his state of the state, state budgets that I've heard this is by far the best but I will stop short of saying I agree with a lot of it cause when you look at the actual budget we were given it's a record amount of spending."
Several times the governor mentioned the need to try and boost the economy, saying if President Bush and democrats in Congress agreed on a federal stimulus plan he hopes to do the same in Illinois.
Both sides say they are willing to work with one another but just how much they accomplish in the legislature this spring remains to be seen.
