Courthouse Undergoes Security Makeover

By Eric Shangraw

Peoria County officials are trying to improve traffic flow into the courthouse while still keeping out weapons.

Today construction is underway on upgrading the security checkpoint on the Main Street entrance of the Peoria County Courthouse.

Visitors are encouraged to give themselves extra time when arriving at the courthouse for appointments or meetings. The Main Street entrance may be close periodically during the work.

Court Security Administrator Jim Ludolph said, "It enhances everything. -The flow and security. It helps with officer safety and the convenience of citizens who use our courthouse."

Construction on the Main Street entrance should take two weeks.

After that upgrade is complete, the Jefferson Street entrance will be closed and go through the same improvement process.
