Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.
And February is the American Heart Association's heart month.
In Pekin's Dragon Dome, nearly 100 people registered for free health screenings and breakfast today.
Folks could get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked.
Officials from Pekin Hospital conducted the health screenings.
State Representative Mike Smith also announced new legislation he is working on during this session.
"I'm taking the opportunity to announce a bill I'm sponsoring this session that will be moving forward next week.. To ensure that all health insurance polices in the state of Illinois cover preventative tests for women's heart disease."
Elsie Soffietti says attended the free screenings.
She says, "I think it's nice. I do have doctors to go for physicals but this is something that I can do between to know what's happening inside of me."
The American Heart Association says it is important to know and control your cholesterol and blood pressure numbers... which can reduce the risk for heart attack and stroke.
