The Scouts Derby

By News 25 Staff

About 80 young kids headed out on the racetrack Saturday. They made the cars themselves and don't even need licenses to drive them.

The annual Pinewood Derby race hit the track in Germantown Hills. Boy Scouts raced their homemade cars for chance to drive into the winner's circle. The Pinewood Derby event has come a long way since the old days, now with technology deciding the winner.

"We've got some software that will race all the cars against each other on every lane and that way there's no advantage for any single car in any single lane," Den Leader Ray Tealbey says.

Win or lose, den leaders say Pinewood Derby is a great way for kids to spend quality time with their dads and their friends.
