Ex-Husband Takes Stand In McCarron Trial

Tazewell County prosecutors are portraying a former pathologist from Morton as a killer who simply gave up on dealing with her autistic child.

At Karen McCarron's murder trial today, her husband Paul said he held his wife responsible for their daughter's death.

Paul McCarron, who is divorcing his wife, told jurors she was coherent and lucid when she told him she killed their daughter.

McCarron's defense attornies are using an insanity defense.

Two babysitters testified today that while watching Katie the week that she died, Karen McCarron seemed frustrated, depressed and said Katie had regressed from any progress she had made with her autism.

McCarron is free on one million dollars bond.

Trial continues tomorrow with McCarron's brother and mom expected to testify.

Her defense attorney told jurors McCarron has dealt with depression since the mid 1990's. They also said she has a history of depression in her family and mental illness.

The trial will likely last about two weeks.
