McCarron Trial To Start Monday

A jury has been selected in the murder trial of a former Morton doctor.

Opening statements are expected to start Monday in the trial of Karen McCarron, who is charged with killing her 3-year-old autistic daughter.

She has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Katherine. The little girl was asphyxiated on May 13, 2006.

But McCarron said in a videotaped confession the day after the
girl's death that she longed for a life without autism. A Tazewell
County judge has ruled the tape can be used during the trial.

Attorneys for McCarron have said in court filings that they may argue that she was insane at the time of Katherine's death.

McCarron has been free on bond since June 2006.
