The Illinois Department of Public Health said Monday marked the deadline for the Oklahoma–based owners of Kingspark Estates in Peoria County to submit a corrective action plan.
That after the state health department found hundreds of violations during a recent investigation.
State Senator Dave Koehler and the Peoria County Board member Jim Dillon lent their ears Monday night to dozens of Kingspark residents who have been complaining for months about what they call poor living conditions and inattentive management.
Residents have complained about countless issues including the sewage system and water problems at Kingspark...a problem the Limestone Fire Department says made it difficult to fight a fire last month at this home. Countless residents were temporarily left without water...and they say it gets shut off on a daily basis.
And now the home owners association is bringing those complaints to Senator Dave Koehler to see what can be done to improve the quality of life at Kingspark.
"We have many problems out here that have not been addressed. The management has not taken any interest in the people. It's a cash cow for them only," said homeowners' association president Pat Weitzel.
Weitzel says residents have seen little cooperation from state officials and the health department...but the state is investigating.
Melaney Arnold from the Illinois Department of Public Health says they sat down with the owners on November 20th citing hundreds of violations and the owners agreed to do a corrective action plan, which had to be postmarked by December third.
Arnold would not disclose the nature of the violations because it is an on–going investigation, but says those violations include simple fixes, problems caused by tenants, and problems that will take longer for the Oklahoma–based owners to correct.
Once the state health department receives the corrective action plan, they say they plan to work with the owners on a timeline to address the hundreds of violations.
"My staff has looked into all the issues with the state and we're prepared to make sure the company complies or is penalized for not complying," said Sen. Koehler.
.Because Senator Koehler says these are good residents who deserve to be treated better.
