A Morton doctor accused of suffocating her autistic daughter has a new date for trial.

Karen McCarron is charged with murder in the death of her three-year-old daughter.

A judge agreed to delay the jury trial this morning after prosecutors said they had just received a mental-fitness evaluation on McCarron and needed more time to prepare.

Tazewell County State's Attorney Stewart Umholtz said, "In a case of this importance, when you have a murder trail when you have an insanity defense, when you have certain issues that may come up there maybe little bumps in the road. We're going to continue to address that to make certain we get everything done right. Because that's so important for the victims."

McCarron's trial is now set to begin with jury selection on January 2. Her trial was set to start this week.
