Plowing Into The Past

By News 25 Staff

Harvest season might be closing in but local farmers are still taking a plow in Mackinaw. Central Illinois farmers brought their antique tractors for the 6th annual antique tractor-plowing bee.

Treading soil was not the only element of today's event. Drivers showcased their antique tractor plows, some dating back to the 1930s.

"The oldest one here is in the 30's and the newest, what we call antique is '59 and older. I don't allow anything newer than 1959," Plowing Bee Organizer Louie Weishaupt says.

Weishaupt hopes to continue the plowing bee in following years. About 35 antique tractors tilled on site. Horse-drawn plows were also featured at the event.
