Many college students say a dorm room is hardly a home–away–from–home...but they make do.
One ISU student Wednesday night was celebrating a dorm–room do–over sponsored by the Home and Garden Television Network or HGTV.
"Oh my God! It's so pretty!"
It's not everyday you see a college student this excited about her dorm room,
But considering resident advisor Joanette McBounds won a Dream Dorm Do–Over from HGTV host and ISU alumnus Claire Berger, she's got every reason to be ecstatic.
"I was very excited and surprised."
McBounds runs the international floor in Colby Hall and wanted her room to represent the diversity of her residents.
Organizers say she won because of her selflessness.
"It's my girls. To be honest, that was my whole purpose in entering in this Dorm Do–Over contest and I didn't expect to win but I knew my girls would be blessed by this room," said McBounds.
And she says it's a big step–up from what the average RA room looks like. Now there's more closet space, plenty of storage, and lots of color to keep her residents happy.
While Joanette is living in the lap of luxury, her peers are stuck with this—cramped quarters and barely any space to put their stuff.
"Just more storage area. My printer is on my counter and there's just more stuff all over the place," said Brittany, who lives in the dorm.
"I have a ton of stuff and I have no idea where to put most of it," said freshman Adam Dobrino.
And then there's the issue of...hairy floors?
"Where they re–glossed it or re–surfaced it, they didn't sweep it first. So, they have clumps of hair stuck in the floor," said freshman Carissa Benner.
Fortunately, Joanette has more accessories to cover up the pitfalls of most dorm rooms. And she's not the only one who gets to enjoy it.
"I love all you girls. This is for you."
