CPR Saved Her Life

If someone has sudden cardiac arrest, outside of a hospital, only 6% of people survive, according to the American Heart Association.

Gail Douglass is one of those 6%.

The Williamsfield woman was traveling near St. Louis when she had a Cardiac Arrest in October of last year.

Douglass said, "My family told me that they saw me on the ground. They rolled me over, I was blue, not breathing, no respiration, no pulse."

Her friend, Pat Penny, began CPR right away and kept it up for about five minutes. Penny saved her friend's life on the day of her husband's funeral.

Penny said, "I truly believe without somebody there it's because there was somebody there who knew CPR is the reason she's live today. She's probably one of my best friends as is her husband. Just truly blessed. People joke but I think it was my husbands way of saying Pat get back to work."

Both Douglass and Penny are Registered Nurses at Methodist Medical Center, so they use CPR routinely, but they are both advocating for more people to learn the life saving technique.

Next week is CPR awareness week.
