Police in London on Tuesday said they were probing the theft of thousands of pounds of jewellery which a newspaper said went missing after a photoshoot with Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan.

The Sun said the 22-year-old actress modelled the diamond necklace and earrings worth 250,000 pounds (300,000 euros, 410,000 dollars) for a photoshoot for Elle magazine at a studio in north London.

The jewellery, which was created specially for the star, was loaned by fashion house Dior for the shoot, the paper said.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We have received an allegation of theft of jewellery which was from studios in Brewery Road, in Islington.

"The theft was reported to us on June 8 after earrings and a necklace believed to be worth in the region of 250,000 pounds were found to be missing approxinately two days earlier.

"Enquiries are continuing and no arrest has been made at this stage."

Lohan, a former Disney child star who was once considered one of the most promising actresses of her generation, has seen her career dip amid legal woes, stops in rehab and cinematic flops.

Last year, the star of "The Parent Trap," "Mean Girls" and "Bobby," received two Razzie Awards, the satirical awards presented to Hollywood's worst actors.
