Gatehouse Media is increasing its presence in central Illinois.

Just three months after purchasing the Peoria Journal Star and five other regional newspapers...the company announced today, they've added five weekly papers and four free shoppers to its organization.

Terms of the deal with Peoria-based Times Newspapers weren't disclosed.

Peoria, East Peoria, Chillicothe, Morton and Washington all will be under the Gatehouse name.

With the acquisition of Times Newspapers, GateHouse owns 21 daily newspapers, 53 weeklies and eleven shoppers in Illinois.
