Bloomington Firm Faces OSHA Fines

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration contends a central Illinois construction company violated safety rules at two work sites.

The agency said Wednesday that Stark Excavating Inc. of
Bloomington failed to provide protection against cave-ins at a site
in Champaign and didn't provide eye-protection equipment or
training at a Peoria work site.

OSHA is proposing fines of $247,000.

Stark spokesman Wayne Clayton said in an e-mail that the company
takes safety seriously and plans to defend itself against the
accusations.

OSHA says the company has 15 business days to do so.

The agency says it found the alleged violations during
inspections in June and July.
