If my vertebrae is misaligned and a nerve is being pinched. How is going to a Chiro going to correct that problem?I have had this for 7 yrs due to an accident and non of the Chiro's (4) i went to,can make this less painful or correct it.Don't do meds.

I have two sons who are Doctors of Chiropractic and also a daughter-in-law. I am 83 and take NO drugs. My husband also practiced chiropractic for 35 years, I owe my health to regular adjustments. I drive by myself to Mpls. every year.

dr. c i was told by my orthopedic doc that the diff was too great to be corrected by a lift. I do have one i wear to help offset it somewhat but it is not enough.

Studies in the US have shown that chiropractic manipulation is substantially more beneficial than PT and meds in the treatment of low back pain. Check out the RAND study completed in 1990: "The Appopriateness of Spinal Man. for Low back pain."

If you have a bad experience with one chiropractor it doesn't mean it doesn't work. Find another one. Chiropractic care can be extremely beneficial and is a much better option than drugs or surgery.

I have a herniated disk and chiro actually made it worse.I was in severe pain from the stretching exercises. The only thing felt good was the heat pads, which I save money and do at home. The neuro said, I needed surgery because it's pinching a nerve.

The problem with that logic is that cars are not human beings and that you are missing out on the real science of a truly helpful therapy.

Dr. G- Soooo.... by the same logic as your "car" analogy, as well as following general M.D. logic, as long as I keep putting the right fluids in my car, it should run just fine, and if it doesn't, something needs to be removed or replaced?

Chiropractic is not meant to heal, but to remove interference from the body's ability to heal itself through the coordination of the nervous system. Short legs should be properly evaluated and corrected by lifts, buildups, or sometimes by orthotics.

chiro care can be used for a variety of reasons, prevent. care, fix problems or maintainance. I have back probs resulting from a car acc. where one leg is vastly shorter then another. No one can "fix" that but my chiro keeps me off pain meds.

Dr Grodon.. Your car theory doesn't work, nor does your car if you don't do regular work (i.e. oil changes, check air in tires...the list goes on). Same for your teeth ... hopefully, you go to the dentist regularly, rather than waiting till it rotts

My chiropractor has fixed both of my separated shoulders, a torn calf muscle and a herniated disk. A regular MD would most likely have recomended surgery for all but the torn muscle. I think I'll stick with my "Chiro".

My "Chiro" has fixed both my shoulders and a herniated disk...I think I'll stick with her.

Actually "fix it?" Why then are patients recommended to continue treatment for a prolonged period of time? If I keep needing to take my car back to have the same thing "fixed" repeatedly, I would probably seek a different mechanic.

Um yeah, if I was loaded up on Hydrocodone, I'd agree to sabotage chiropractors. Maybe they were offered a lifetime of narcotics. This study is grossly slanted and biased. MDs want to mask the pain and chiros actually fix it!

Hmm 100 patients in the study. In the UK the BEAM study http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/329/7479/1377 had 1300 patients and showes a benifit for manipulation. I guess if you only ask 50 people your likely to come to the wrong conclusion.

Dr. G- continuing to follow your car analogy, many people continue to return to their MD's for pain medication when the one they are taking inevitably stops working. So you give them a different pill. And then another different pill.
