The Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery (IIAR) was established in 1979 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. The Institute has developed a wide variety of services and programs to meet the growing need for hospital-based addiction recovery treatment and serves patients from around the world. Addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling, spending, shopping, food, sex and the Internet are treated as well as chronic pain with addiction.

The IIAR® Proctor Hospital is located in a 12,000 sq. ft., free-standing facility adjacent to Proctor's outpatient Counseling and Recovery Center. The facility accommodates inpatients and outpatients from across the country in an easily accessible, highly confidential setting surrounded by the wooded, park-like campus of Proctor Hospital. Addiction assessment and recovery services are also provided by IIAR in Springfield, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in nearby Bloomington/Normal.

IIAR services are available for men, women and adolescents. Available care ranges from modern intensive medical treatment to prevention counseling.

IIAR developed the first comprehensive, specialized compulsive gambling treatment program in Illinois in 1993. In addition to treatment and counseling for compulsive gamblers and their families, IIAR staff members provide training for professionals interested in becoming certified gambling counselors.

IIAR also developed the world’s first comprehensive Internet addiction treatment program in 1996 and the nation’s most comprehensive chronic pain with addiction treatment program in 1998.
