Colon & Rectal Cancer is Largely Preventable

Story Updated: Jul 29, 2009
How can this be? Over 98% of colon and rectal cancer is of the adenocarcinoma type, which is aggressive and difficult to treat with radiation and chemotherapy. Surgery is the most effective treatment, however, colon and rectal cancer is often discovered at a stage when surgery alone cannot assure a good chance for a cure.
The key is screening the population. Early detection and removal of polyps before cancer develops or before cancer spreads can save many lives.
Effective Screening
The only effective tool for both screening and treating polyps is a colonoscopy. This is an outpatient procedure in which the physician visualizes the inner lining of the colon and rectum. Polyps identified may be removed at the same time.

Your overall health depends in large part on the health of your colon. This is because all of the food you eat is processed in the colon. In due time, however, harmful toxins that are normally discarded during bowel movement builds up in our colon and these can cause health problems such as constipation, weight gain and reduced energy levels. For this reason, it is very important to do a colon cleanse. http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk
