Dew Drop Inn

A pub in Farmington is trying to put more emphasis on the grub.

Eric Shangraw makes a stop at the Dew Drop Inn, in this week's You Gotta Eat.

The Dew Drop Inn is on the main drag in Farmington. The owner, Tonya Alexander, is trying to bring in families to balance out the bar crowd. She has some simple suggestions on what to order from the menu.

"The homemade tenderloin that my mom makes are good. She does a great job. The big daddy burger is something a lot of people like. It is like a half–pound burger stacked really high," said Alexander while wating on tables.

We met Tonya's fiancé Jeff. He sent the email that brought us to town and obviously felt obliged to show us how a grown man downs the Big Daddy Burger. You could hear him take in a deep breath as hunkers down on the unsuspecting burger.

My big daddy partner Josh Simon went with the same order as Jeff. Josh decided to go with half a Daddy at a time.
Josh and I also split a combo basket of fried cauliflower, cheese sticks, mushroom, onion rings and corn nuggets. You'll find the combo basket under "Red Neck Appetizers" on the menu.
I ordered the monster tenderloin. It is two hands across. I spent about ten seconds trying to figure out how to stretch my pie–hole around the goliath before drawing my sword and slicing the beast into thirds.
With pickles, onions and mustard, the middle third was all I could conquer. Our bill with drinks, $19.50 plus tip. We had some station money left over and decided to throw some darts.
It is just another element of small town fun if you get a chance to stop by the Dew Drop Inn.

This is a great place to eat! They redid the bar and Tonya has done a great job with restructuring and changing things around in order to have her business running smoothly. And Helen, please check your sources because your information is wrong. Tonya is pregnant and is definitely Jeff's. That is a horrible thing to spread. Please grow up and realize that a person can run a bar and still make good decisions.

The drive is worth it. But I would call ahead. They are not very prepared there. But from my understanding the place is falling apart. The owner is pregnant and cant handle running the business by herself. This place used to be a family restaurant, but from what I hear, the owner has "ruined" the reputation of the business. She doesn't even know who she is pregnant by and she was engaged to be married. So that guy she dated for the last year had to leave her because of her cheating. What a mess!

This place smells! The food was not good at all! They were still mopping when they opened up. We took our order to go and they forgot my daughters mushrooms. Its a dump! Will not go back! FPC has my business or Kershes Cafe.

Loved this place. Great tenderloins! Also noticed that they just redid the bar and added more space. What a great place to eat. Very popular in the community!

I just ate their with a buddy and it was great. I had a big burger and my friend had their nacho supreme. Their prices are way to cheap! Burger/Fries, nachos, and 2 drinks for less than $10! We did order some tenderloins for take home as well. Their tenderloin special is today (Wed) and 2 "head-sized" loins with fries cost $10!

I just loved the food! My husband and I ate there today and had their Catfish Special. It was so good. We drove from Pekin and will do it again tomorrow to have their monster tenderloins.

I feel that Dan is way off base. I went to the Dew Drop Inn and my wife and I loved it. The food was fantastic and had a great atmosphere. From someone that actually tried the food, I do have to say that it was great. I ate their monster tenderloin and my wife had the moist cheese & broccoli chicken breast. It was great to see them packed especially for a new business. Bravo on the early success and I commend the owner Tonya for making this a "great eat" in Farmington.

Went there Friday night. No seats available with 8 tables. Place was cold. Ran out of tenderloins before we ordered. Was going to be a long wait for food. We left without eating and we drove 1 hour from Mason City for this "great food." I don't think I will ever follow your suggestion for a place to eat again. You were way off base on this one.
